New York’s metal rails have long been considered the city’s best way to enjoy the city, but they’re also a serious danger.
A recent report from the city department of transportation and public works found that as many as 1,500 people die every year as a result of falling from the railing, according to the New York Post.
The number of accidents has risen in recent years.
Since 2006, at least 829 people have died as a direct result of the railing.
A report from New York State’s Department of Transportation last year found that while the city has had some success in reducing the number of falls, there was still a high risk of injury.
“We are in the middle of a major public health crisis,” said a report by the department’s transportation division.
The report found that more than 4,000 people had fallen to their deaths from metal railing in the past five years.
As the city braces for the coronavirus pandemic, many of the citys metal railing are also being replaced with better, more effective ones.
